The story of BLACK PAINT began with a mother's love and the search for inner and outer health for her daughter.

When the founder of Black Paint Miyuki Maeda’s daughter was diagnosed with a serious "incurable" kidney disease, her outlook on life was changed forever. The power for healing was in her hands. She would not stop believing there was an answer, nor stop working until she found it, no matter how long it took or where she had to look.

It took Miyuki much scientific study. She learned about beneficial bacteria and saw the light. Bacteria that live symbiotically in our bodies are essential to our physical function, from digesting nutrients to protecting against disease. So, instead of killing those bacteria, we should nourish them so they can do their job.

BLACK PAINT is the result.

"We refuse to use any synthetic preservatives, disinfectants, fragrances, colorings, anti-oxidants, or ultraviolet absorbents because many are already proven to cause cancer and other illnesses as well as damage the eco-system."

Ditch all those synthetic and artificial products that suppress our skin’s reaction to the external environment! We are working towards building the harmony between our skin and nature.

The BLACK PAINT
Established in Kyoto 15 years ago by Miyuki Maeda
  • Made from naturalorganic materials which are blended from more than 100 types of plant oils, more than 50 types of essential oils and Kishu Binchotan Charcoal

NOTE!:  Our skin renews itself every 28 days, sloughing off old dead skin cells (keratin layer) and replacing them with fresh new ones. Use the skin care products for 28 days to allow your “normal” skin and “renewed” skin to adjust to it.

The BLACK PAINT system revolves around 4 key steps:

Step 1 – Remove clogging from pores
Step 2 – Hydrate your pores
Step 3 – Nourish your pores
Step 4 – Protect your pores

Black Paint Soap | Cleanser
120g / S$49.90

How was the Black Paint Soap discovered?

When the alkaline water of the hot springs touched their skin, which is acidic, it triggered the skin to restore its normal balance by releasing more acid and this acid pushed out all the waste from within, leaving pores completely clean. That's why BLACK PAINT is made with a slightly alkaline pH level to simulate the effect of alkaline hot spring.

What does it do?
  • Deeply cleans pores and removes keratotic plugs for smoother and fresher skin.
  • Removes makeup
  • Effectively absorbs impurities and delivers natural minerals (with the help of Kishu Binchotan Charcoal)

The first time I used the soap, the nape of my neck turned slightly red and experienced itchiness (must have left the soap on for too long). However, the redness and itchiness didn't last and all was fine. So for those with sensitive skin, you might want to start by using the soap with less frequency and subsequently increasing your frequency of usage gradually. Also, make sure you shut your eyes tightly upon rinsing product and don't leave the soap on for too long!

Filling the bowl with warm water
Have I mentioned how goooood it smells? It smells like lavender oil!
Smear that paint!

Simply leave the soap on a plate to air dry after use! And while it is drying it is good as an air freshener HAHA

It requires really high discipline for me to only use it once a week. Especially since your skin needs sometime to rebalance the pH levels. The soap is best used within 6 months after opening and my guess is that it probably can last that long since I only use it once a week.

It has been about a month and a half since I've tried it ( 4 times to date) and there might be a 'purging' phase initially as expected since debris is pushed out from within. Especially on the nose area, the dance-floor where all my blackheads party on, there are slightly more bumps which may be signs that the blackheads are being pushed out from inside. Of course, like all 'purges', expect a little pimple here and there.
BUT, once that phase is over; darn! The skin is soft and my T-zone is getting clearer, even from the harmless blackheads.

I usually stick with acidic products to avoid the fluctuation in pH levels of the skin. This product has worked out well for me despite being alkaline. Remember to test patch this out especially if you've sensitive skin!

Best Water | Toner
100ml / S$59.90

Ingredients:
Water with
(nothing crazily foreign right?)

Directions:
Use 3 to 5 pumps of Best Water on the skin. Gently add pressure using your palms on your face for better absorption. (Tip: It is recommended to apply Best Water along with facial paper and use as face mask twice weekly for better results.)

This is their one-sided facial paper, (the other non-absorbent side with a wax coat). Soak the absorbent side with the toner and lay it onto your skin like a face mask for around 5 minutes.

The Best Water is fragrant-less, colourless, and in all honesty, like water. It caused no irritation when I first tried it, and left my skin feeling clean and fresh. Although I wasn't astonished by its effects, the ingredients are basically minerals, and yet it achieves the same results as most toners with harmful chemicals do.

Oil Water Rose | Lotion
100ml / S$49.90

Directions:

Due to the absence of emulsifier, the rose oil and rose hydrosol are always in 2 separate layers. Shake the bottle vigorously for more than 20 times until the liquid becomes a milky/whitish solution. Then, apply 3 to 5 pumps volume of product onto skin. Repeat this step for 2 to 3 times. (Apply this after cleansing and Best Water application.)

The clear plastic cap for these products are not too secure, you should either press on to it while shaking or remove it. Slap it onto your face real quick as the oil coagulates back pretty fast.

The Oil Water Rose emits a delicious rose scent that's uplifting due to aromatherapy effects it provides. My skin feels so soft every time I use this! Oils up the moisture levels of the skin, especially on more mature skin (like ahem, mine) and locks in to prevent moisture loss which may result in fine lines. It works instantaneously and effects last all day long. As you might know, the golden ratio of water is to oil in our skin is 3:1, having oil and water in a single product is an awesome idea to keep our skin perfectly balanced.

Water Cream | Moisturiser
50ml / S$79.90

Directions:

Take a pearl-sized amount, and spread onto face. Transforms into water droplets upon application. Wait until your face dries before applying makeup. (Skin's unevenness is corrected, giving a good adhesion of your foundation and a long-lasting make-up finish)

The Water Cream is my most loved Black Paint Easy 4 Step Pore care product. The gel coats the skin and within a few seconds, breaks into tiny water droplets. It gets easier to spread along your face as the water droplets starts to form; and anything with water is always cooling.

So tiny that I don't think I've got it captured.
It has such a lovely and soothing rose lavender smell! The Morocco’s Argan Oil in it improves skin metabolism and promotes moisture retention. The Water Cream is cooling and brightens my skin.

Wait for it to dry and you can to skip your makeup primers. Silicon is also quite high on the ingredient list and it smoothens the skin surface for a flawless finish. And of course, lock the moisture in to stop the nasty powders from absorbing moisture from our skin.  Unless your foundation has SPF protection, do remember not to skip your sunscreen thereafter!

As always, a good spatula is appreciated.
There is even a dock for it!

If you've come till this far, thank you so much! I understand that these products are on the pricier side and in all honesty I don't feel too ready to burn such a big hole in my wallet! Especially when there aren't samples. So there's a lucky draw by BLACKPAINT, if you would like to get a miniature version for trial.

The Black Paint Easy 4 Step Pore care product is sold at Takashimaya Basement Level 1Isetan (West Gate) Basement Level 2, online official website http://blackpaint.sg

They don't particularly have a line for their products as you can see, and certain products might not suit certain skin types. We all have different skin, do drop by their booth at Taka or Isetan (West Gate) to try out the products for yourself before any rational purchases. HEHEH!

If you are a teenager with acne problems or just oily skin, I would recommend their signature BlackPaint soap for pushing the debris from inside out. Don't be too upset if you have already hit your 20s or 30s, the Oil Water and the Water Cream have really high hydration power to keep your skin (and makeup) in check while you're slogging your life in the dry chilly office.

Hope this has been helpful!
