[Skincare] The Ceramide Cure- Review: Curél Sebum Care Line
Disclaimer: The products featured in this post is provided by the company for review purposes. I'm not paid to do this review and all opinions are honest are of my own.Like everyone else, I've been on the constant hunt for the perfect skin care product. Perfect as in, that they are good for me at that point in time- season, age, hormonal cycle. Once things change, everything start to change, like how the stores start flashing out their "new collection" of merchandises. But could there be something that is here for stay, say the basic plain tees or tank tops?
The Curél Sebum Care Line comprise of 3 products- Foaming Wash, Lotion and Moisture Gel, which are better known as the basics. The products do not strip off oil and moisture off the face albeit being a sebum control line. This renders it felicitous for both sensitive and oily skin, by building resilience and regulating sebum secretion respectively.
I've sensitive skin myself, which conditions are exacerbated with the sudden climate changes when I travel. The blood vessels on my naked face is ever present to the extent that I cannot apply any blush if I don't want to risk looking like a tomato. I usually settle for the gentle cleansing products which are not abrasive on my skin, they don't strip oil nor irritate my skin.
BUT you see, my skin is also oily, like the minyak orang dude you heard from creepypasta. The excess sebum very often oxidize into blackheads and subsequently into inflamed pustules.
My skin usually go through hell with me during my menstrual cycle and my examination period (which is, well, another period), all thanks to the hormonal fluctuations which I have no control of. Let me just add on that I apply makeup on a daily basis for work, it seems that every deep cleanse puts my skin through a wringer. The claims of these products are huge, that results are be observed in just 4 weeks. Come on, how do I not sound like the perfect target audience of theirs?
My Exam Face |
I like how more and more Japanese products are getting minimalistic, fuss-free packaging and marketing and more product-oriented. My expenditure has been put at skyscraper heights during this GSS period, so my threshold is naturally lower. I'm thrilled to share these range of affordable products with you!
Sebum Care Foaming Wash (150ml), $19.80
The Foaming Wash effectively removes excess sebum without irritating the skin as the lathered foam cushions against rubbing and tugging on the skin during cleansing.
On wet skin, I use 2 full pumps of it. The foams rests on
your face, adhering like a memory cushion while you massage for less than a
minute before rinsing off. No fragrance, no colorants. I will continue on
to the toners and moisturizers immediately after face washing but to try this
out, I left my skin alone after cleansing on the first day of use. To be frank,
though my skin don't feel raped like the other foaming cleansers I have, it
wasn't exactly hydrated or supple like one of my more gentle cleansing
products. For about a few days, I did the same thing- wash, dry, ignore for
about 30 minutes, then continue with the rest of the products. The tautness of
the skin after cleansing reduced. Like when I was 14, the only product I had
was a cleanser, and I didn't see the need to load on anything else, yeap, that
was it.

Curél Sebum
Care Lotion (150ml), $24.90
The
application of the toner and moisture gel is when the ceramide gets really
replenished because the cleanser only stays on your face for a short duration.
It restores ceramide by activating the ceramide-producing cells to do so, such
that ceramide is produced from within. This toner is of really watery texture;
it looks, smells and feels like water. Other than ceramide, this water is also
enriched with an anti-inflammatory ingredient and an inhibitor of sebum
secretion. The skin pH is rebalanced, and is dampened to prep the absorption of
the next few products. We all know that skincare infuses deeper on damp skin.
You can use this on a cotton pad for a little exfoliation or directly onto the
skin.
Curél
Sebum Care Moisture Gel (120ml), $34.90
Also
dispensing through a pump bottle, this moisture gel has a very runny
consistency which I quite like for massage purposes. As you can see, it is a
little milky and spread out easily. This doesn't take too much time to be
absorbed, say, less than 30 seconds?
Moisturizer
is the one product that I invest the most money on, it seals all the goodness
in and continue to deliver more wholesomeness to the skin. Once moisturized
properly, the skin becomes moisture-dense and is less susceptible. I have oily
skin, but smear a layer of thick cream moisturizer on my face because that
gives me a relief from from the dry air-con air and talc powders on my face. My
skin is less oily with this gel moisturizer, it has a deep penetration level
and relieves my thirsty skin to an extent. My skin is less red and stopped
itching.

All the
products in this line does its job, like what most sensitive products do for
me. They keep my skin in check, and prevent the occurrence of more breakouts.
But these did somewhat more, such that I can feel the difference in a mere
week. The skin also felt hydrated and supple.
Though
claiming to control sebum, my skin was not left dry and matte, but it had a
constant sheen of healthy glow. Oil production is reduced to some extent, more
evident on my T-zone. On my skin, it controlled breakouts better than oil
secretion.
Though my
blackheads weren't completely eradicated in this week, I did not have too many
active acne breakouts since I've started trying them out (especially during
that time of the month). So, I would have to say that, I'm pretty impressed, at
its inexpensive price.
Yes,
but not foundation.
