*Note: I've heard from countless of people saying that ingesting collagen does not help at all to replace the skin's collagen levels. There is still no concluding studies, however. As a student from what I've learnt from the books, yes, it does not. As a consumer who has tried out the products, I do feel a difference, however small. Such as the betterment of blood circulation, but not in the visible reduction of any wrinkles.

In this review, product information is from the manufacturer. What I provide here in this review is not a concluding example of whether it works, but if it tastes okay.

I've been gaining heaps of weight since college started. I snack on simple carbohydrates and sugar while facing the harmful UV rays of the computer screens on almost a daily basis. Before I get drowned by my fats, I'm looking for a good product to rid the extra pounds I've accumulated this year while I prepare for the new year. Not to mention that I'll be turning 20 next year, my metabolism is slowing down. HAHAA! Don't start throwing eggs at me, I have prove! My hair and nails take longer to grow; my wounds heal at a slower rate and my weight is not undergoing homeostasis.
The product that I'm featuring in this post is a collagen drink by MygenLife. I had consumed collagen products before (Meiji Collagen Powder), but not in the bottled drink form. It's taste is seemingly more important.

Importance of Collagen

Before you think that only your skin can benefit from collagen, let me share its additional effects with you. This includes
  • Better metabolism
  • Improved appearance of the skin
  • More reliable sleep patterns
  • Higher energy levels
  • Better skin elasticity
  • Muscle retention

As we age, collagen protein is broken down and this is acerbated with exposure to UV rays and consumption of sugars. Not only so, but our body loses the ability to make more of such proteins. Visible and non-visible signs of aging will start to arise- skin gets thinner and less elastic and wrinkles appear; connective tissues weakens and joints stiffens. Collagen protein supplements have risen into popularity to help increase health and youthful appearance and promote weight loss.*

[Read note above].

How Can Collagen Supplements Help

It is believed that supplementation with collagen protein can help restore this vital substance, allowing the body to repair itself. Collagen protein supplements supply the body with important amino acids that serve as building blocks. This eventually brings back the tensile strength of youth and healthy tendons and ligaments. With more efficient metabolism and higher energy, weight loss often follows, leading to much improved overall health.
The body is able to burn fat more efficiently, and increased energy levels lead to more frequent and more efficient exercise. Better, more reliable sleep cycles also help the body function at higher levels and eliminate fatigue that can cause stress and over-eating. Retention of energy-burning muscles also helps increase metabolism and the body's overall fuel-burning efficiency. Increased skin elasticity reduces lines and wrinkles, leading to a more youthful appearance.

The drink is thick, and has a consistency similar to that of a berry concentrate. It is sweet-sour which really caters to my taste buds. No joke but I honestly feel like I'm an insect sipping nectar!
Results
As mentioned in my Meiji collagen post, I've several icepick scars on my cheeks which looks like enlarged pores. I'd stopped consumption of the Meiji collagen for about a few months now and my body is fit for another good review. The recommended intake is a bottle a day for 28 days. My total consumption was 2 bottles fortnightly.

Radiance: With overly efficient air-conditioning, I've been freezing at work. My limbs have been especially chilly. After consumption, my core body temperature had rose and a red flush is reappearing on my cheeks! I had missed them loads!

Mood: I reckon that its work that brings my mood down. As if its written on my face, you could probably tell how bored at work I'm at a glance. After consumption of 2 bottles (not on consecutive days), I noticed that I'm finally more talkative and had been smiling more.
Repurchase: Probably, but it is pretty costly for me. But if you're someone that can afford to invest $39.90-$49.90 in a week, then I would recommend you trying this!

Before-After Photos (Disclaimer: These are not camwhore shots! HEHE)

After:

I've tried collagen drinks before, and I've to admit that I'm definitely tempted by the promises by the companies. I've also learnt more in-depth about them in school, and accepted that they may not work. (There are a only 2 studies that showed that they improved elasticity) I don't truly understand how this thing works if you ask me in a biology-medicine POV but, I've definitely seen a difference as I've reported in my results above. Almost nothing in the reduction of wrinkles or elasticity but just the betterment of the overall complexion.
You'd probably heard of more people who swear by their consumption, though I'm still not one of them. I'm sure I'm not the only one. you might really want to try it for once to see if this is for you. I do have to admit that, the price to pay might be too high for the result.

My skin was dull and prone to breakouts; even when I'm smiling, I still looked lethargic. Notice that my eyes look more alert and bright when I'm healthier and I'm in a better mood? Thanks to better sleep cycles now, my unsightly dark eye rings are less visible. My eyelids are more lifted and I have more colour on my lips!
